There were so many of our young Zimbabweans there, my eyes were not dry the whole day as I spent many happy hours conversing with and enjoying wonderful young adults, whom we have known since babyhood, all Zimbabwe born and bred, all talented, successful, beautifully mannered, all with excellent jobs and prospects and all well settled in the UK. Beautiful Mother of the BrideGroom, Jane and I decided proudly that these young people, are Zimbabwe's finest exports. It brought us great grief and sadness though, as much as pride, because they should all still be in Zimbabwe, we should have kept their skills, their fine morals, their excellent brains, their fine breeding and their brilliant secondary and tertiary schooling skills. Why should England Ireland Scotland and Wales benefit from our home produce ? Why can they not have stayed and put back into the country what the country gave to them, an excellent healthy up-bringing, fine manners, bright young minds? We so need these skills back in Zimbabwe right now. There were babies too, quite a few of them .... and the good thing was that without exception, these young people wanted to bring their children back to grow up in Zim. To experience the fine schooling system, the tennis, hockey, rugby and cricket that they too had thrived on. The healthy outdoor lives of fishing, hunting, swimming, we have no arcades, we have no shopping centres, we just have sun and fresh air and caring people who know right from wrong and who wish to bring their kids up the way kids have always been brought up - the Great Zimbabwean way. ++++++++ MORE ON " LETS GET THE WHEELS OF LOCAL INDUSTRY ROLLING AGAIN !" To replace a timing belt I have to supply Bulawayo price 400 Rands, Francistown 300 Pula. Bulawayo mechanic says that is equal. Sorry 40 Pula is significant money to me. I charge less than half Botswana prices for my services! In other fields people want significantly more. I am not wealthy enough to pay extra for the privilege of using Zim. We will recommence training on the 10th May. +++++++ Its very nice to call all the old girls of Coghlan School, but why leave the old boys out??? Coghlan did have coed Grade 1 & 2 classes once upon a time. I was taught there by the very wonderful Mrs Pattison (I am sure lots of people in Bulawayo will remember her and her husband George Pattison, who was also a teacher), and a certain Miss Dale who used to drive a blue combi alla-Woodstock. I left Coghlan at the end of 1986 and went on to Milton Junior which at the time did not have Grade 1 and 2 classes. I think Coghlan stopped taking boys a couple of year's later. I am not sure when Milton Junior started its Grade 1 & 2 classes, but they were put wherever they would fit until new classrooms could be built. I can try and help financially. I haven't actually been back to Coghlan since I left. Is there anyone doing anything for Milton Junior out there??? Please let me know if there is. All the best Deon M. We went to SA last week to buy a replacement generator as we saved R11 000 by buying a South African make which has spares back up. Try and find spares for an imported Asian variety in this country! Two businesses in town have these Asian generators in stock @ R18 000 each. Second hand spares at a local Japanese spares importer work out at plus 300% what you would pay for new spares in SA. Locally produced Olivine brand plums are available in Bulawayo at R15 per tin - tinned fruit in SA is half that price. Yesterday I was quoted R300 for a replacement sensor for our house alarm - I am sure when I buy it in SA later this week it will cost me less than R100. He has been advised by Dr Cohen that he has to go to Unitsa Hospital in Pretoria in South Africa there is nothing the doctors here can do for him.
