The Wilson Girls.

Margie, Gina and Carly Wilson have been part of the fabric of the Bulawayo Community for as long as I can remember. We met when our girls were at junior school together, many many years ago. Sadly I never knew Fred, the legendary father of the family.

I quote from Gina's always upbeat Facebook page posted a week or so ago.

'Today is a big day for our family. For the first time in 3 generations (c.100 years) there is no immediate family living in Zimbabwe anymore. Our mum has made the move to South Africa. Our childhood home - the only one both of us kids have ever known - is sold. The dog has a new happy home. Our family sentimental items are en route to SA. And today is my late Granny's birthday.

Last night I felt immensely nostalgic. My sister - the incredible, caring ninja that she is - has been with my mom for the last 72 hours finalising everything in Zim. It's been heavy lifting. Emotions at every corner. Exhaustion. Sadness. Excitement for the future. What a wild ride. Thank you for doing this Chomps - I love you x

Our house has held so many of our friends and family in its bosom. The parties. The laughter. The arguments. The tears. Broken hearts, shared stories, so many many photos. I feel bereft. It wasn't meant to go like this. 12 Tenby was meant to be our North Star forever.

Some of my favourite memories of that house in no particular order:

- Birthday dinners with my granny and gramps
- Watching black and white tv sneakily after bedtime from the passage when I thought my mum didn't know I was there (yeah right!)
- Sharing a room in bunk beds with my sister when we first moved in (and then getting my own room many years later when my mum was able to do renovations)
- All the pets over the years - Pushkin, Puddy, Tat, Sylvester, Monty, Toots, Tilly and a rescue cat whose name escapes me!
- Hours and hours of laughter with the Twins and Noddy in that lounge - the smell of coconut hair oil wafting in the air
- Coming home from petrol queues of 24 hours to our safe haven
- The constant ringing of the landline at decibel 10 - the whole road knew the phone was ringing! (And the best phone number in the world decades ago - 71710)
- The amazing renovations my mom did over the years. We moved into a 2 bed, 1 bathroom semi detached. And moved out of a 3 bed, 2 bath with office addition semi detached - well done Mama Bear!
- Neighbours. The people who lived in that road over the course of my lifetime. Trav and Wes Calder, Anne from next door, Wendy and Sandy, Cheryl Vickery my horse riding teacher, Peter and Denise Botwright, Granny Helen Walker. So many loved people.
- My darling friend Duncan who rode into the gate like a bat out of hell on his mountain bike with regularity - I miss those visits my friend x
- The never-ending stream of visitors - for a small house there was always space to stay.
- Locko singing 'dem bottles dem bottles' all those moons ago (miss him Goonie x )
- My sister climbing through the inside window that used to be in my mom's main bedroom to check out what Santa had bought us - how mom never heard us I will never know..maybe she did!!
- Santa footprints for Fred and Finn on the lounge carpet
- Our Nuna. Nettie Mlambo. Our second mom. Our constant shadow when we were young. MHDSRIP. We miss you Nuns x
- The laundry basket in the bathroom - where hours were spent chatting to whoever was in the bath. When you live in a house of girls there is no such thing as privacy!!
- My gramps arriving with his purchases from Greenvale Suoermarket every Sunday - the Pavli family are an institution x
- Watching the Mayor's Christmas cheer show on ZTV with Mags Kriel as the hostess - what a legend!
- Veezy - my mom's carer and dearest shamwari for the last 15 years - so much care and love x
- Lindsay Armstrong and my mum cutting out patterns and material to make outfits for us on Saturday afternoons on the lounge floor - cigarettes in hand and a glass of coke at the ready!
- My mom baking scones and cheese puffs and cheese straws for her Friday afternoon teas with Angie Hodges and Margo Snook and Penny Robinson.
- Bacon and egg roll Friday nights with the Halsted and Lemon families - combined with back tickling in a row and Maelstrom - those were the days for sure!
- That Tobes my legend of a BIL got to spend time with us in that home and to experience our lives there - you fitted in well x
- Bombing around town and being dropped off by my wonderful cousin and long time growing up accomplice Matthew Love in his black morris minor! With roll bars nogal!

I could go on but the lump in the back of my throat is just too big. And as for my memories of Zim - my cup over runneth x

The thing I remember the most about that house is the LOVE. Always in abundance. Always space for one more. Probably the single best thing about my mum and that house - she filled it with welcoming love for anyone who came through its doors.

I can't imagine not sleeping in my childhood bedroom ever again. And yet I am thrilled for my mum's next chapter - close to family and her grandkids for her golden years.

Thank you 12 Tenby for showing me that there is always space for one more at the table. What a grand lesson for the ages.'

This little Family is indeed reminiscent of Louisa May Alcott's book 'Little Women'!! They will be very sadly missed in our Community.

Christmas is coming it is a time for reunions, bonding, renewing of friendship, the season of joy, peace, love & unity and a common tradition is the exchanging of gifts with our loved ones, friends, workmates and family and having lots of yummy food to eat ....

With this in mind Mustard Seed Communities Zimbabwe ,Team Nozizwe and partners are planning a massive Christmas soup kitchen for next month , bringing a traditional Christmas to underprivileged communities in particular the over 1000 plus children we feed at our five kitchens. Ngozi mine , Pumula , Woodville and Cabatsha and Maghobho

Here's the catch ...... we need your help to pull this off... we're planning on cooking up a storm for our little friends and elderly folks ...... serving rice, grilled chicken, and salads , with a little something sweet for dessert , cupcakes maybe sweeties and drinks AND THEN...... give each child a little toy/special gift to take home .....

Due to limited storage space for perishables we will accept canned foods, dried foods and other non perishables first from now until December. Then perishable goods such as vegetables and meats can come in a few days before the big day .

Donations big and small of any special eats and treats will be most welcome to make this a reality, in the previous years over Christmas we have served up to 700 children and this year we are likely to break that record by far . If you would like to donate to this years soup kitchen please do get in touch .....

THURSDAY 1 DECEMBER AT 6.30 P.M. REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER
Unlike most of the current Thursday films, Revenge of the Pink Panther was not released in 1997 but as far back as 1978, the final on-set performance of Peter Sellers in the role of Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
To prove that he still is strong and powerful, Philippe Douvier decides to kill Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Once Clouseau's death has been announced, the former Chief Inspector, Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), feels much, much better and is released from the mental hospital. But Clouseau has survived and decides to take advantage of his 'death' to go under cover with Cato (Bert Kwouk) and Douvier's secretary and ex-lover (Dyan Cannon) to find out who tried to assassinate him.
- Writer-director Blake Edwards and his collaborators have wisely chosen to give an audience just what it wants and expects from a Pink Panther film - riotous slapstick, spectacular stunts and Sellers in a variety of accents and disguises that give him free rein and lead to inevitable uproariousness. [Washington Post]
- Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards clearly have no interest in tampering with their pat, profitable formula. They give us what we have come to expect from the series: a slapstick farce with raucous sight gags, wild chases and crass jokes that must be inspired by Playboy cartoons. [Newsweek]
- The inflatable parrot scene is worth five stars alone. This is the last great Pink Panther film, and the most parodic, with targets ranging from Hong Kong kung-fu to The French Connection to The Godfather to Saturday Night Fever and even The Pink Panther itself. It's pure silliness. [Rotten Tomatoes]
Admission: US$2.00 [free to Film Members]

SATURDAY 3 DECEMBER AT 10.00 A.M. ACADEMY STUDENT CONCERT
The Academy's usual end-of -term concert will include performers across a whole range of instruments as well as guests. There will be an interval when drinks, cakes and hot dogs will be available.
In the afternoon, there will be a drumming exhibition and concert starting at 3.00 p.m.
Admission: US$1.00

THURSDAY 8 DECEMBER AT 6.30 P.M. TOMORROW NEVER DIES Carriages: 8.45 p.m.
Released 25 years ago on 9 December 1997, Tomorrow Never Dies was Pierce Brosnan's second outing as James Bond. Media mogul Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce) wants his news empire to reach every country on the globe, but the Chinese government will not allow him to broadcast there. Carver doesn't take no for an answer and plans to use his media empire to fuel flames of war between the Western world and China. Thankfully, Bond is on to the insane news tycoon and travels to China to stop him with the help of Chinese secret agent Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh).
- Brosnan's best Bond, striking the correct balance of menace, thrills and humour, using a chase-movie template to ensure attention never wavers. [Sky Cinema]
- A zippy 007 romp that draws as heavily from the Asian action genre as from the formula that has served the series so well for 35 years. [Washington Post]
- A strong entry, with Brosnan the comfortable, confident face of the invigorated franchise, reflecting the Connery glory days 30 years earlier. [BBC.com]
- So strong is this entry in the Bond series that were someone never to have seen a Bond film, this is probably the one I would use to introduce them to it. [Three Movie Buffs]
Admission: US$2.00 [free to Film Members]

FRIDAY 9 AT 6.30 & SATURDAY 10 DECEMBER AT 2.30 & 6.30 - SHOWCASE 2022: MOVIES IN MOTION [AT THE BULAWAYO THEATRE]
The Academy joins with Just Dance to present Showcase 2022: Movies in motion - Lights, Camera, Action! The programme will include a wide variety of dance plus performances from Academy musicians.
Admission - Matinee: $5.00, Evenings: $10.00

SATURDAY 10 DECEMBER AT 7.00 P.M. BARRY JOHANSSON: ONCE UPON A MANGER
Barry Johansson was born in Bulawayo and attended the Zimbabwe Academy of Music where he studied piano with both Derek Hudson and Professor Henryk Mierowski. He also took pipe organ lessons with Olaf Axelson at Kwanongoma College of Music. He went on to study music and voice at the University of Redlands California and also took private vocal coaching with many acclaimed masters. He has for many years been singing all over the United States performing in opera and as a soloist in many large venues. Coming home for Christmas Barry decided it would be a great honour to present a concert in the Robert Sibson Hall where as a young student he performed many times as well as presenting concerts later on in his young adult life and he will be joined by Emelie Correia and Emmanuel Mlilo.
The programme of Christmas music will include 'Oh Holy Night', 'Jesu Bambino', 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel', 'Breath Of Heaven', 'Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring' and 'What Child Is This' as well as audience carols, etc.
Admission: FREE - donations welcome!
