All you need is a bicycle (helmets are compulsory and we do have some
spare at the track), long trousers and long sleeved top.
Most people are not aware that right here in Bulawayo we have a world class
track that meets international riding standards.
One of Zimbabwe's top rider DEAN NORMAN is now coaching our riders every
Tuesday and Thursday evening starting at 17H15.
Dean has been riding BMX competitively for more than 10 years, he has
recently received his Zimbabwe colours and is on the select team for World
Championships. 
Apart from Dean, Bulawayo has a wealth of talent, we would like to wish our
world ranked riders Elaine and Morgan McAdam , Matthew Noach and Matthew
Bourne all the best for BMX WORLDS being held right next door in South
Africa this year.

PAB and the Academy
April is school holiday time and things will be quieter at the Academy. The
office will be closed for the week of Trade Fair, i.e. Monday 19 - Saturday
24 April but otherwise open normal hours Monday to Friday (8.30-4.30) but
not on Saturday mornings.

Wednesday 19 - Sunday 23 May Bulawayo Music Festival

The Bulawayo Music Festival
The Seventh Bulawayo Music Festival will take place from the evening of
Wednesday 19 May through to Sunday 23 May and will feature Leslie Howard,
Michael Brownlee Walker, Coady Green and Elizabeth French (pianos), the
Odeion String Quartet, Leon Bosch (double bass), James Grace (guitar),
Trevor Lax (trumpet), Kit Hesketh-Harvey and Richard Sisson ("Kit and the
Widow") and Petroc Trelawny, the BBC Radio 3 announcer and producer.
There will be sixteen concerts plus entertainment in the
grounds from various local groups - choirs, marimbas, pop bands, brass
bands, etc. As in recent festivals, the emphasis will be more on chamber
music than solo recitals although there will also be several of the latter
including two involving all four pianists in a celebration of the 200th
anniversary of Chopin's birth as well as a recital from Leslie Howard. With
four pianists on hand, there will be two-piano concerts and music for two,
three and four pianists and pianos throughout the week. Leon Bosch, James
Grace and Trevor Lax will all give lunchtime solo recitals and there will be
two performances from Kit and the Widow as well as daily "Meet the
Performers".

Boccherini: Guitar Quintet in D major, G448
Bottesini: Gran Quintet in C major (with double bass)
Dvorak: Piano Quintet in A major, Op.81
Hummel: Piano Quintet in E flat major, Op.87
Mendelssohn: Piano Sextet in D major, Op.110
Mozart: String Quartet in G major, K.387
Ravel: String Quartet in F major
Saint-Sa ns: Septet in E flat (trumpet, string quartet, double bass, piano)
Schubert: Piano Quintet in A major, D.667 - "Trout"
The opening concert will include a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria with a
choir drawn from Girls' College, the Convent, CBC and the Academy Singers
and the festival will end with The Mukamba Tree, a work by Richard Sisson
based on a book by the local author June Farquhar specially written for the
Festival. Lasting about 25 minutes it will involve upwards of 200 young
performers as well as all the visiting performers.
Booking for season tickets which cost $60.00 opens on Tuesday 6 April.
Season tickets cover all Festival events other than the performance by Kit
and the Widow at the Bulawayo Club. This will include a full three-course
dinner and tickets are provisionally priced at $25.00.
N.B. The two performances by Kit and the Widow will be of completely
different material!
Booking for individual concerts will open on Monday 26 April. Tickets for
the main evening concerts will be $10.00, for all others $5.00.
