Bulawayo is Shrinking          - 26/8/2014      <--Prev : Next-->

What on earth is happening

Some disturbing figures were sent to me by a fellow Bulawayo lover, figures that were pretty disturbing.

According to Wikipedia there are some very interesting facts about dear old Bulawayo but what is most concerning is to
compare the two following population census figures!!

Bulawayo was founded by the Ndebele king, uMzilikazi kaMatshobana around 1840. In 1897, the new town of Bulawayo acquired the status of municipality, Col. Harry White became the first mayor, and in 1943, Bulawayo became a city.

Bulawayo has long been and is still regarded as the second business capital of Zimbabwe after Harare and is home to the National Railways of Zimbabwe because of its strategic position near Botswana and South Africa.

It is the nearest large city to Hwange National Park, Matobo National Park and Victoria Falls.

Bulawayo is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, after the capital Harare,

But ! In 2009 the population of Bulawayo was recorded as some 1,500,000.
But ! As of the 2012 census, the population is recorded at 653,377.

This is a loss of 846 000 folk! That is eight hundred and forty six thousand people!!

Where have all the Bulawayo residents gone Has no one been born in 3 years

What is happening to our Dear Old Bulawayo
